Looking Back on Tom Petty | Music to Sing Along

My wife and I attended a Tom Petty tribute recently. A diverse crowd of white, brown, black, young, and old packed the place. A couple of dozen local artists participated.

What struck me is everybody knew every word to the songs and sang along on each. Tom was a beloved musician who touched people across a far greater demographics than I had imagined, probably why he sold over 80 million records over his musical career.

Check out some of Tom Petty’s best videos/songs.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers – Here Comes My Girl

Who hasn’t sang along with Here Comes My Girl? Tom seems pretty smitten with some girl and tells the story brilliantly.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around ft. Stevie Nicks

Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks recorded this song while touring together. Young and pretty, Stevie and Tom clicked, producing a rock staple in Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around. I love Mike Campbell’s guitar on the song.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

Another Tom Petty signature song, Breakdown might have been his first great hit. Mike Campbell makes the guitar talk on this song, and Petty is at his best.

Tom Petty will be missed, but his music will never go away.
